This week has been one of downs. Everything I wanted to accomplish was null and void. And I also had to let go of my daily. It was for for best. But I will still miss the heck out of that old boat. Funny thing though... That mustang is older by 2 years. And that will be my new daily until the end of the year / beginning of next year when I hope to make an educated decision on a new daily. It’s got to be a sedan though, and more fuel efficient than the grand marquis 20-21 mpg.

Those are comfy though aren’t they? I’m sorry you had to lose her. The Mustang should do the job nicely.

I have a 2000 Grand Marquis with only 179000 on it and she still runs like a sewing machine

Hahaha! I’ll be driving my mustang for a bit while I orientate myself and see what makes most sense. The Chevy SS was on the list until I saw the gas mileage. W orse than my grand marquis and that will not pass the wife unit. I drive a fair bit for work.

So the criteria are: Faster than the grand marquis (not hard), more feul efficient (not hard either) and 4 doors. It can also be a front driver. Not many rear wheel drive cars out there that strike my fancy without sticking a V8 up front and thus instantly disqualifying them.

Good to hear a story about a dealership that treats you right.

I literally got a calculated 20-21 every time. And that was cruising at 80+ on the highway. I drove it with purpose. The best I ever did was a calculated 24.5mpg on a semi road trip . If I drove it like a grandpa I bet I could have done a whole lot better than that.

The mustang will be fine. I love driving it. AND it’s a stick. So much fun to row your own gears. It revs a bit higher on the highway because of the 3.55's though. So I am thinking about sticking to the right lane a bit more. It should also help with stone dings. The grand marquis got some big ones because of the high speed driving I did with it.

I had a V6 of the first-gen S197 Mustang, and I adored it. It got out of it’s own way just fine. Both of the engines in those cars are unsung heroes, because they were putting out 210 hp (V6) and 300 hp (V8) at the crank, which in 2005 was unheard of.

They went above and beyond the call of duty on this one. It speaks volumes when a you have a service advisor work with you. That is not in his job description at all! That is why I have serviced all my cars there, and will continue to do so in the future.

I have never driven the 4.0. My wife had a 1999 V6 at one point (which was replaced by the 2005 Mustang GT before we married) and it was fine too. Heck, we dusted a V6 challenger at the light one time. It was hilarious. It would be a fine daily, but I am definitely looking for something newer with 4 doors.

I feel cheated my trans went early. But sometimes that just happens. Lots of people have seen 200K+. Engine wise it pulled strong it’s entire life! .

It’s easy to go fast when it’s smooth and quiet.

I just bought a 1999 Mercury Grand Marquis, V8 engine, 87K miles . Runs beautifully, BUT the gas mileage is HORRIBLE and I might have to sell it because I live on a fixed income.  NanaAnn

It was as smooth at 90 as it was at 65. Heck, I enjoyed the higher speed cruising in it more than driving at high speed in the Mustang.

Around town they are abysmal. A calculated 16- 17 was the norm for me.

Just got back from a 1000 miles road trip in my 2003 Grand Marquis. Averaged 25 mph and 63 mph. 145,000 miles and not a single hiccup on the entire trip. Suspension is as smooth as the day I got it. The V-8 still has all the passing power one could ask for. As I painted my grill and my rims black a few years ago, most everyone gets out of my way either thinking I'm a Maurader or an undercover cop. Lol. Besides my BMW 530i, this is the best car I've owned. Sorry to hear about your tranny. Hope my holds out to see 200k.

But the Camaro was putting out 325 in 2002, and the GTO was putting out 400 in 2005 with IRS and a 6-speed.

I am sure it will! I am going to miss that car. Driving the mustang to and from work is fun, but man, I am taking it a whole lot slower in that car for sure.
